The Praxis Series® tests are taken by individuals entering the teaching profession and measure teacher candidates’ knowledge and skills. The tests are used for licensing and certification processes and include:
- Praxis® Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core)
These tests measure academic skills in reading, writing and mathematics. They were designed to provide comprehensive assessments that measure the skills and content knowledge of candidates entering teacher preparation programs.
- Praxis® Subject Assessments (formerly the Praxis II® tests)
These tests measure subject-specific content knowledge, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills, that you need for beginning teaching.

Pearson VUE Test Center® (PVTC)
WPWA is the only PVTC serving Wayne and Pike Counties offering testing services for hundreds of industry required certifications as well as GED testing services. Pearson VUE® delivers millions of tests a year across the globe for clients in licensure, certification, academic admissions, regulatory and government testing services markets. Pearson utilizes a patent-winning design, which was created specifically for high-stakes testing and offers a carefully controlled, consistent testing environment. Industry-Recognized Certifications for Career and Technical Education Programs: The Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Career and Technical Education has compiled a resource guide which lists industry-recognized certifications for career and technical programs in Pennsylvania’s career clusters.
The Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania was created to make companies more competitive by updating and improving the skills of their employees to meet specific company needs. The goal of the Guaranteed Free Training program is to strengthen the business environment of Pennsylvania by improving the skill level and productivity of Pennsylvania workers. Lacawac Sanctuary is an educational and research facility with the core purpose to educate people of all ages about northeast Pennsylvania’s unique and diverse habitats and natural resources. Lacawac’s hands-on academic enrichment programs directly complement what students are learning in school, and address the Pennsylvania State Education Standards for Science & Technology and Environment & Ecology. Lacawac’s enrichment programs make “science come alive” and are available to students in four counties: Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wayne and Pike.
Lacawac Sanctuary is an ecological field research station and public environmental education facility with an extensive educational consortium bringing important scientific research from around the world to our neck of the woods. Lacawac Sanctuary offers a number of internship, apprenticeship and summer programs.
