An Update from SHINE Afterschool Programs in Wayne & Pike Counties

WP SHINE started its pilot year in September 2019. The program began traditionally, operating 5 centers in Wayne Highlands SD, Western Wayne SD, and Wallenpaupack SD. Since COVID first happened and schools closed down in March, our program adapted by moving to a fully virtual program.

Pennsylvanians get back to work with the help of community-based groups

The pandemic crippled the national economy, and acutely decimated the north eastern Pennsylvania region which relies heavily on the tourism and hospitality industries.

In Pennsylvania, the unemployment rate jumped nearly 11 points once the pandemic hit, but has been slowly going down thanks to organizations like the Wayne Pike Workforce Alliance.

The CSLWP STEM Ecosystem works collaboratively within Carbon, Schuylkill, Luzerne, Wayne, and Pike Counties to promote STEM opportunities for ALL students.

The CSLWP STEM Ecosystem works collaboratively within Carbon, Schuylkill, Luzerne, Wayne, and Pike Counties to promote STEM opportunities for ALL students and arm them with 21st Century employability skills. Ecosystem members represent K-12 schools, career and technical schools, colleges/universities, public libraries, local businesses/industries, after school programs, elected officials, local workforce boards, and community organizations.
